Functional Fitness

Flexibility

Tight muscles reduce range of motion of a joint, put people at risk of injury and cause pain. Effective exercise aims to maintain and improve muscle length and joint range of motion.

Exercising with the MedUp V2 in passive, active-assisted or active mode, regardless of nerve innervation and one’s ability to move their limbs on their own, helps to maintain or improve muscle length and joint range of motion. The net gain is enhanced flexibility, which in turn helps prevent or reduce tightness, muscle imbalances, pain and functional limitations.

Keeping muscles at their optimal length for function reduces the occurrence of painful spasticity and enhances quality of life.

Use of the MedUp V2 helps to prevent contractures (whereby the muscle is shortened and can’t be stretched) which often limit function and, in severe cases, require surgical intervention.

Cardiovascular endurance

The MedUp V2 seeks to assist in the delivery of optimised cardiovascular health, allowing you to exercise your arms and legs in the active-assisted or active mode. The MedUp V2 is unique in its provision of aerobic upper limb exercise by which using the arm crank at an increased velocity will serve as an effective stress on your cardiovascular system to work your heart, lungs and circulatory system.

Improvements in aerobic capacity, cardiovascular fitness and respiratory fitness are all possible with the use of the MedUp V2.

Muscle Strength

Using the arm and leg trainer in active-assisted mode can help facilitate motor recovery. Using it in the active mode with progressive increase in resistance, or isokinetic mode, is recommended for maintaining or increasing muscle strength and bone mass.

The maintenance of muscle strength assists in the preservation of bone health and prevention of osteoporosis. Strong muscles reduce the risk of falls and subsequent fractures and improve functional independence in activities of daily living. The MedUp V2 provides a means of addressing muscle weakness that may contribute to abnormal gait patterns and impaired mobility.

Balance

By increasing the strength in your leg muscles using the MedUp V2, you are also improving your ability to balance and thereby supporting a safe and stable gait pattern. It is recommended that you supplement your MedUp V2 training with other forms of balance exercises.
